Who We Are

I'm Kayla

Intern

I’ve always been drawn to helping others and began my path doing so as a high school teacher for ten years. My passion for mental health grew out of my experience in the classroom, where  I witnessed the need for more mental health awareness within the community. A desire to help others in a different role is what pushed me to pursue a new career path and begin a counseling program. Currently I am pursuing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Gwynedd Mercy University.

My prior experience has been in residential treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. I find working with adolescents and young adults working through life transitions especially fulfilling, as well as, with adults experiencing burnout and anxiety.  The therapy framework I utilize is Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. REBT is a practical approach to help individuals to  more deeply understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. REBT is present-focused and assists individuals in gaining the skills to challenge their thoughts in a healthy way and work to identify their personal set of beliefs to create change. I value creating an atmosphere of authenticity and working to build the therapeutic relationship.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my many pets, volunteering in various animal rescue organizations, reading, and spending time outdoors.
